Atomique and Vintage Designs
Why Hand Knitting you may ask?
Well, hand knitting for me is a return to the heart of what knitting is about - the careful knotting of one loop into another. It requires just two needles and yarn and is easy to transport anywhere (even on an aeroplane*) It's a stripped-down way of creating a garment of beauty, elegance and warmth that can last for years and become a heirloom.

A knitter since being 8 years old, I've been hand knitting for many years. In my blog I share my interest in vintage inspired fashion and my experience and training in dressmaking and fashion design to create and share my unique designs with you!
You can find my own hand knit patterns to buy online in my shop along with some freebies and original vintage patterns to buy and download

What Is Vintage Inspired?
In all my own designs I keep the essence of the vintage look but work this for the 21st Century to create what I term 'a vintage knit, with a modern fit'
My interest lies in enhancing the vintage silhouettes, capturing the look and elegance of the mid 20th Century era; but making these wearable for the modern figure. This ensures my garments are interesting and appealing to people who want a classic vintage look as well as those who want a vintage vibe. I incorporate different techniques in my knits which can help you develop your own knitting skills and learn some forgotten techniques that are particular to vintage fashion.

My love of natural yarns shows throughout my designs; and I knit most of my designs with wool at the main component, although you are welcome to substitute these for polymers and nylons.

From all the natural yarns available, I personally find wool to be the most elastic, wearable, adaptable and forgiving yarn. It keeps in the heat when it's cold, and stays cool when it's warm. I often knit with mixes of wool with other natural yarns such as alpaca, silk or mohair and these fibres are the stalwarts of my designs.

Texture And Colour!
I've always had a love of texture and this finds a snug home here within my designs. I often combine a number of different stitches throughout my garments to create interest and add embellishment and you can read more about this in my blog post here

My second love is colourwork knitting using both fair isle and intarsia techiques and I often work these into my designs

*do check with airlines before arriving at airports as all flights ban the use of straight needles carried on as hand luggage and some airlines ban steel circular needles but allow wooden circular needles to be added to hand luggage. All types of knitting needles can usually be carried as cargo baggage
